The Consulate General of the Philippines in Hong Kong joins the Filipino nation in mourning the passing of former President Fidel V. Ramos on 31 July 2022.

Mr. Ramos served as the 12th President of the Philippines from 1992-1998. President Ramos renewed business confidence and championed the Philippines’ economic potential in the international community. Working towards his vision of Philippines 2000, President Ramos led the country to become one of the fastest growing economies in the region.

Son to former Secretary of Foreign Affairs Narciso Ramos and brother to two diplomats, President Ramos espoused a proactive and consensus-oriented foreign policy. He carved out a space for the Philippines in the international stage through continuous engagements with other states. In 1996, he led the Philippines’ first-ever hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Community (APEC) Summit, where the leaders of 18 APEC member economies participated

President Ramos passed away at the age of 94. He leaves behind a legacy of public service and nation-building. He is survived by his wife, Amelita Ramos, and their four daughters.

Members of the Filipino community in Hong Kong may pay their respects to former President Ramos at the Consulate’s public area from 07-09 August 2022 (10:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m.). A Condolence Book will be available to anyone who wishes to convey their message of condolences to the bereaved family of the former President.
