Hong Kong, 28 May 2023 – In observance of the National Flag Days from 28 May to 12 June 2023, the officers and staff of the Consulate General of the Philippines in Hong Kong held a flag raising ceremony at the PCG public area, joined by some members of the Filipino community.

In her remarks, Deputy Consul General Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan emphasized the relevance of the flag as a symbol of the country’s independence and sovereignty and how it represents the traditions, beliefs and aspirations of every Filipino. She mentioned how Hong Kong played a significant role in Philippine history as the very first Philippine flag was sewn at Morrison Hill in Wan Chai, Hong Kong by Marcela Agoncillo, her daughter Lorenza and Rizal’s niece, Delfina Herbosa.

The officers and staff of the Consulate and members from the attached agencies also recited the “Panunumpa ng Kawani ng Gobyerno” aside from the “Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas” to affirm their commitment as public servants. During the two-week commemoration, the Philippine flag and flaglets will be prominently displayed at the Consulate’s public area.
