Consul General Raly L. Tejada met with the members of the Philippine Women’s Cricket Team and congratulated them for their silver finish at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games held in Cambodia on May 2023.

Nine (9) members of the national team were pulled from the Subcontinent Cricket Club Divas (SCC Divas), a team composed of Filipino domestic helpers, which took the Hong Kong’s cricket scene by storm by winning several awards in the Women’s Development League of Cricket Hong Kong.

The team is captained by Ms. Josie Arimas, a former Palarong Pambansa baseball player from Bacolod City who first played for HKCC Willow Wielders for three years before forming Divas. Most of the team members have a background either in baseball or softball, which made it easier for them to transition to cricket, which is sometimes dubbed as “British baseball”.

Consul General Tejada applauded the team’s triumph throughout the years and for bringing pride and honor to the country despite the team’s limitations in terms of training hours, gears and available playing grounds during their free time. He also conveyed the Consulate’s commitment in providing support and assistance for Filipino athletes in Hong Kong. CG Tejada hopes that more Filipinos in Hong Kong will be familiarized with the sport and support the team in their journey
