HONG KONG, 29 August 2023 – The Consulate General of the Philippines in Hong Kong welcomed the Filipino students from Luna National Highschool in a courtesy call on 27 August 2023 after their victorious stint in the 2023 Hong Kong International Mathematics Olympiad (HKIMO) Competition held on 25-28 August 2023.

During the courtesy call, Acting Head of Post Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan congratulated the young Filipino Math wizards and encouraged them to further pursue their Mathematical excellence. A message from the Acting Head of Post was also shared during the Prize Ceremony which was held on 27 August 2023 at the Data Technology Hub, Tseung Kwan O. She congratulated all the winners and participants for their exceptional performance and commended their families and mentors for shaping the careers of the young mathematicians.

The Philippine team, comprised of one hundred sixty-seven (167) Mathletes from various schools across the country, finished strong with twelve (12) podium finishes, thirty-six (36) golds, forty-four (44) silvers, fifty-five (55) bronze medals and forty-two (42) merit awardees.

Over the years, the HKIMO has brought together brilliant minds from across the globe in order to engage in a friendly competition which aims to stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm in learning, cultivate mathematical intuitive reasoning and logical reasoning, as well as creative and critical thinking. During the examination, the students go through five (5) main topics including, Logical Thinking, Arithmetic or Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry and Combinatorics.
