Hong Kong, 03 March 2024 – Philippine Consul General Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan, together with other Consuls General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Hong Kong, conducted an inspection visit on 22 February 2024 of the customs facilities led by Assistant Commissioner Hui Kim of the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department (HKCED).
The ASEAN Consuls General visited the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Customs Canine Base and were briefed on the work of the Customs Canine Force by Mr. Barry Lai Chi-Wing, Head of Land Boundary Command. They observed a demonstration of passenger and luggage search and inspection procedures by professional dog handlers.
The ASEAN Consuls General also visited the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) where Mr. Li Kin Kei, Head of Airport Command, explained customs clearance procedures for passengers and cargo. They were given a tour at the immigration hall to gain a better appreciation of efficient customs clearance operations at the port. Customs Commissioner Louise Ho hosted a luncheon for the ASEAN Consuls General where she mentioned that the visit to the customs facilities was arranged to give the ASEAN Consuls General a deeper understanding of the HKCED’s latest clearance procedures and frontline work. She shared that the conduct of exchange activities and inspection visits to HKCED facilities aims to further strengthen mutual understanding, promote cooperation and enhance multilateral partnerships between Hong Kong and the ASEAN Member States.
Hong Kong is the host of the 6th World Customs Organization (WCO) Global Canine Forum on 5-7 March 2024. As WCO Vice-Chairperson for the Asia-Pacific Region (2024-2026), Hong Kong is determined to strengthen regional enforcement against cross-country crimes.
