HONG KONG, 7 July 2024 – The officials from the Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) led by President (Prof.) Allan Yuen conducted an in-depth briefing about the college, along with the testimonial of one of its Filipino students, including its Pamela Peck Discovery Space (PPDS) on 4 July 2024. The Philippine Consulate General was represented by Vice Consul Allan G. Revote, Economic Officer.

Both parties discussed possible areas of collaboration, including funding and scholarship opportunities for Filipino students. Per YCCECE’s current data, 4% of their students originated from the Philippines. YCCECE hopes to receive more applications from Filipino students who are interested in pursuing a profession as a future early childhood educator.

YCCECE offers programs of Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Early Childhood Education (BEdECE), Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education (HDECE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Studies. Aside from being the first tertiary college focused on early childhood education in Asia, YCCECE is likewise the first self-financing institute that has received the Hong Kong Government’s approval to run a full-time pre-service kindergarten teacher-training program. Graduates of the BEdECE and HDECE programs at YCCECE automatically obtain four (4) early childhood education professional qualifications, namely: 1) Registered Kindergarten Teacher; 2) Registered Child Care Worker; 3) Registered Child Care Supervisor; and 4) Qualified Special Child Care Worker.

As part of the YCCECE’s development of early childhood education, it has established the Pamela Peck Discovery Space (PPDS), an interactive play space specifically designed for children ranging from infants to 8 years old. PPDS is a living lab which boasts a dynamic and two-way experiential learning environment for children, as well as YCCECE students to actively plan, engage and practice their newly learned skills with young children, as supported and facilitated by their lecturers.

PPDS has various engagement areas where children are able to learn while they enjoy playing and exploring different kinds of activities. Its outdoor playground features engagement in physical activities through its adventure tree house, climbing wall and sphere, mud kitchen, sandbox, water play area, mini vehicle track and a picnic area for families. Meanwhile, the indoor section provides opportunities for young children to explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and engage in sensory experiences through imagination-driven playing in its mini theater, heritage junk boat, doctor’s room, science room, expression studio, construction corner, supermarket, MTR, library, crawlers’ corner, outdoor meditation garden and movement corner.

PPDS is open daily, except Wednesdays, to the public and for all children in Hong Kong. Interested visitors may book a slot for a three-hour session from 9:00am to 12:00nn (morning session) and 1:00pm to 4:00pm (afternoon session) at https://www.eventbrite.hk/o/pamela-peck-discovery-space-39234642363. -END-
