HONG KONG, 10 July 2024 — In a bid to promote the Philippines as an investment and retirement haven, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong supported the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA)’s official launch of the national retirement brand campaign, “Love to Live in the Philippines”, in Hong Kong through advertising wraps on one hundred (100) red urban taxis on 8 July 2024. The red urban taxis operate all over Hong Kong, except Tung Chung Road and roads in South Lantau.
The PRA, an attached agency of the Department of Tourism, seized the opportunity to invite foreign nationals living in Hong Kong to invest, reside and retire in the Philippines through their participation in the recently concluded 50+ Expo (formerly Retiree & Senior Fair). The PRA provided the procedures, requirements and benefits of acquiring the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV) to expo visitors. The 50+ Expo, organized by Brilliant Vertical Exhibition (Hong Kong) Ltd., was held from 5 to 7 July 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is a one-stop senior care exhibition aimed to accommodate the growing needs and demands of the 50+ demographic in Hong Kong.
Per PRA data, there are only 1,766 Hong Kong Chinese nationals who have been issued with SRRV. With the growing elderly population in Hong Kong accompanied by increasing longevity, the city perfectly emerges as one of the source markets for retirees in the Philippines. According to the Ageing Asia Silver Economy Index 2020-2025, Hong Kong ranked 4th in the Asia Pacific region as a potential silver economy growth market, after Singapore, Japan and Australia. -END-
