Hong Kong, 12 November 2024 — Two Filipino Community organizations, Migrant Ilonggo Cultural Dance Troupe and Mindanao (HK) Migrants Alliance, showcased Philippine folk dances, “Paseo de Iloilo” and “Singkil,” respectively, at the grand stage of the Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2024 (AECP) held on 10 November 2024 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza.
The AECP, a highlight program of the 2nd Asia+ Festival, celebrated the rich cultural diversity of the different countries in Asia and in the Belt and Road regions. With “Celebration in Splendour” as its main theme, the event offered the audience a vibrant cultural feast that showcased diverse cultural activities from over twenty-three (23) countries and regions, including stage performances, cultural displays and interactive booths.
The Philippines likewise participated in the “Sartorial Splendour-National Costume Exhibition” featuring the traditional attire of T’boli tribe, arranged by the South Cotabato Overseas Workers Association (SCOWA). The exhibition is free and will run until 17 November at the Foyer of Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
Philippine Consul General Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan attended the opening ceremony as one of the officiating guests, alongside Hong Kong Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Kevin Yeung; Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (OCMFA) of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. Pan Yundong; Acting Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms. Eve Tam; Mr. Nicholas Ho, Commissioner of the Belt and Road Initiative; and representatives of the other Consulates General.
The program received an enthusiastic response from the public and attracted over 32,000 visitors and tourists. END.
