Hong Kong, 27 November 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong underwent a basic self-defense training on 21 November 2024 as part of its Gender and Development (GAD) program.
The training, which was conducted by Professors Marcus “Kiko” Cacella and Diego Cacella of the D’jago Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy Hong Kong, provided the Consulate personnel and members of its attached agencies with essential safety and security awareness. Participants learned various self-defense techniques, including ways to escape attackers and how to respond effectively to various types of physical threat.
During the workshop, Professor Cacella shared the critical importance of maintaining presence of mind and composure in dangerous situations. He also pointed out that learning basic self-defense skills can be beneficial to people of all ages and genders, and need to be practiced to attain “muscle memory.”
In her remarks, Consul General Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan underscored the significance of the training in promoting discipline and focus among the staff. “This is a great opportunity to boost confidence and sense of security, especially for me and my female colleagues, both in the workplace and in our daily lives,” she added.
