The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong SAR, led by Consul General Bernardita L. Catalla, attended the Hong Kong Women's Commission International Women's Day 2017 cocktail reception at the HK Government Office on 8 May.

 

The event was officiated by HK Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying. In his speech, the Chief Executive noted HK government closely collaborates with the Women's Commission and various women's groups to enhance promotion of women’s rights, supports working women, and encourages women to participate in public services.

 

CE Leung emphasized the importance of gender mainstreaming in both public and private sectors with the establishment of gender focal point networks as a major initiative.

 

The reception was attended by some 600 women and men from the consular corps, HK government, business community and civil society.

 

The Hong Kong Women’s Commission was established in 2001 to advise the government and make recommendations on women’s issues.  Its current chairperson is Ms. Stella Lau, JP.
