Representatives from the Iloilo municipal and provincial governments, led by Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog and Board Member Renee L. Valencia of the 1st District of Iloilo Province, led a successful investment roadshow in Hong Kong on 21 April at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club.
Organized by the Philippine Association of Hong Kong (PAHK), under its Chairman, Mr. Rex Aguado, and supported by the Philippine Consulate General, the initiative marked the Iloilo government’s first-ever international investment roadshow and PAHK-Business Development Committee’s inaugural project for 2017.
The full-house event was attended by businessmen from Hong Kong and mainland China including representatives from the Hong Kong-Hainan Commercial Association, Online Media Cultural Association-Hong Kong and International Entrepreneurial Institute.
The Consulate briefed the participants on PH investment regime and doing business in the country. Mayor Mabilog and Board Member Valencia provided overviews of the investment opportunities, as well as initiatives that make doing business in Iloilo an ideal choice such as good governance, infrastructure development, and business streamlining and tax incentives.
The Iloilo Economic Development Foundation, Inc., and Palm Concepcion Power Corporation were also part of the business delegation, with the latter sharing its successful partnership with mainland Chinese investors in operating a 135 megawatt coal-fired power plant project in Concepcion, Iloilo.
The investment roadshow also served as the kick-off event for the Business Mission to Iloilo on 18-21 May to be participated in by some 50 Hong Kong and mainland Chinese businessmen.
As a side event, Board Member Valencia and several Iloilo government and private sector officials met with members of the Ilonggo community in Hong Kong on 23 April at the Consulate, and promoted business and capacity-building opportunities for OFWs and their families.
