Kain Na! (Let’s Eat), a Filipino food tasting event, was held on 31 August featuring traditional Filipino dishes prepared in novel ways by Ms Margarita Forés, one of the country’s award-winning chefs, and with the support of the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong.

Kain Na! was organized by the Philippine Department of Agriculture in the House of Madison in Hong Kong’s Wan Chai district, highlighting ingredients and products exhibited at the 2017 Natural and Organic Products Asia (NOPA) held from 30 August to 1 September 2017 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

Ms. Forés, 2016 Asia’s best female chef, whipped up seven Filipino dishes served cocktail-style, including lechon de leche (suckling pork roast), seafood sinigang, pork sisig and chicken adobo. Ms Forés owns and manages a number of Italian restaurants in the Philippines.

She also had the guests taste other delectable Pinoy dishes from all over the country’s regions and cultures, such as tuna kinilaw, suman made from heirloom rice grown in the Cordilleras, barquillos and chive mousse stuffed with crab fat and fish roe, maja blanca, free-range pork belly smoked in guava leaves, soft and hard cheeses from goat’s milk, truffles from CMV Txokolat, and cocktails from Destileria Limtuaco.

Media practitioners, industry leaders and members of the business community in Hong Kong were feted to what the Department of Agriculture described as “the original fusion cuisine,” mixing well-known ingredients with new or lesser known crops such as gamboge, purple corn, pink mushroom, and red rice.
