Philippine Consul General Antonio A. Morales met with Turkish Consul General Korhan Kemik to discuss matters relating to the trafficking of Filipinos to Turkey at the Turkish Consulate in Causeway Bay on 24 January 2018.

During the meeting, Consul General Morales expressed his concern over the renewed activities of some employment agencies luring Filipino domestic helpers from Hong Kong to Turkey under dubious arrangements to look for employment as household service workers.

In response, Consul General Kemik expressed concerns over the unfortunate circumstances brought about by such situations, and gave his assurance that the Turkish Consulate will assist should any case be brought to their attention. He emphasized the importance of utilizing all legal remedies available in Hong Kong.

Should there be reason to believe that Turkish authorities should be held responsible, however, the Consulate would then endorse such cases to their government.
