Philippine Consul General Antonio A. Morales attended the back-to-back opening ceremonies of expos organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) on 16 August 2018 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
The HKTDC and the Modernized Chinese International Association Ltd. (MCMIA), co-organized the two-day International Conference of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM) on 16-17 August, aimed at keeping practitioners abreast of the latest trends and developments in Chinese medicine and health products.
The HKTDC also held an opening ceremony on 16 August 2018 for four concurrent five-day expos, namely, the 29th Food Expo, 10th International Tea Fair, 5th Home Delights Expo, and 3rd Beauty & Wellness Expo.
For the ICMCM, expert researchers from India, Japan, Korea, Russia and the US joined the experts from mainland China and Hong Kong as conference speakers.
Put together, the fairs have gathered a record number of around 2,100 exhibitors showcasing a wide array of food gourmet, tea, beauty and home-related products as well as new products to trade buyers and visitors.
The Food Expo, a signature event of HKTDC, gathered a record number of more than 1,560 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions, including 1,100 from overseas such as Thailand, Czech Republic, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Poland and Kazakhstan. It comprised three (3) dedicated areas, namely, the Trade Hall, Gourmet Zone and Public Hall.
HKTDC Executive Director Margaret Fong, and Hong Kong Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, JP, led the twin opening ceremonies. Consul General Morales was accompanied by Deputy Consul General Roderico C. Atienza, Vice Consul Fatima G. Quintin, and Attachés Luz M. Iglesias and Charlene A. Beriana.
Hong Kong is widely recognized as the trade fair capital in Asia located at the heart of the world’s fastest growing economies. The Philippines, through the Department of Agriculture, last participated in the Food Expo in 2016.
