Consul General Antonio Morales and Consul Paulo Saret attended the Jie Jie Day 2018 program held on 2I September 2018 at Renaissance College in Ma On Shan, Hong Kong.

Jie Jie Day (literally “Nanny Day”) is an annual celebratory event led by the students of Renaissance College to show their gratitude, love and respect for household service workers (HSW) in the Territory, who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of Hong Kong children and households.

More than a hundred HSWs, mostly from the Philippines and Indonesia, attended the program, where the students and parents entertained them with song and dance numbers, but also served them lunch prepared at the college’s performing arts hall.

Consul General Morales thanked the Renaissance College community for organizing the event as a way of showing their respect and appreciation to HSWs who, as he emphasized, “contribute to the economic vibrancy of the Territory” as they allow Hong Kong women to pursue their careers.

He added that the work of an HSW is a hard and noble one which entails a lot of sacrifice, especially on the part of the HSW’s family whom they left in their home country.

Representatives from advocacy groups that champion the rights and welfare of HSWs in Hong Kong, such as Enrich International – Hong Kong and STOP (Stop Trafficking of People) – Hong Kong, also spoke to exalt the importance of HSWs in the Territory and mentioned their programs which benefit the workers.

At the end of the program, the students handed the HSWs goody-bags and small presents as tokens of appreciation.
