A Hong Kong-based international group promoting business parks focused on innovation and technology called on the Philippine Consulate General on 2 October 2018 to recommend the creation of the Philippines joining a global platform of such parks under the auspices of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Consul General Antonio A. Morales received Mr. Jason Fung and Mr. Kevin Or, Secretary General and Founder, respectively of the International Innovation Parks Alliance (IIPA), who introduced and discussed what IIPA can do to foster international trade between Philippines and China through the creation of an international platform of innovation and business parks.

Among the IIPA’s members are the United Arab Emirates (UAE)-China-Arab (Emirates) Cooperation Demonstration Park Industrial Capacity, Jining Modern Logistic Park – Mongolia; China-China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park; and Australia-Lionsgate.

IIPA has been aggressively pursuing the ASEAN member states such as Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and now, the Philippines. 

Consul General Morales welcomed IIPA’s proposal and informed its officials that the company briefer will be shared with relevant Philippine government agencies, including the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and the Department of Trade and Industry.
