In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in support for the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation (HKBCF), the Philippine Consulate General, led by Consul General Antonio A. Morales, participated in HKBCF’s “Pink Walk for Breast Health 2018” at The Peak—the highest point on Hong Kong Island.
On its 14th edition, the Pink Walk is HKBCF’s annual flagship fundraising event. The HKBCF officials present during the event were the Foundation’s Chairman, Mrs. Eliza Fok; Vice Chairman, Ms. Sandra Mak; Dr. Polly Cheung, Chairman of HKBCF Steering Committee; and Head of Breast Health Center, Ms. Grace Chung.
More than two thousand participants dressed in pink, some with their children and pets, took the leisurely 45-minute walk to help raise awareness on the importance of early detection of breast cancer. The Pink Walk route follows the flat 3.5-kilometer Peak Circle Walk along Lugard Road and Harlech Road near The Peak Tower some 400m above sea level.
HKBCF has been a longstanding partner of the Consulate in providing free breast screening and mammogram for OFWs in Hong Kong. For 2018, the organization has offered 100 slots for free breast health screening for OFWs.
Deputy Consul General Roderico C. Atienza, Social Welfare Attaché Elizabeth L. Dy and the Consulate’s Gender and Development (GAD) Team completed the attendees from the Consulate.
The Consulate’s participation in the Pink Walk for Breast Health, held for the second straight time, was conducted under the auspices of its GAD program.
