The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong opened on 23 October 2018 the one-night exhibit titled “Jewel of the Night” at the PCG Gallery, showcasing the exquisite creations of jewelry designer Helena Alegre famously known for her traditional filigree designs.
A free workshop titled “Jewel Power” was also conducted by Ms. Alegre on 21 October at the Consulate, featuring beading, wire looping & wrapping and all the basic jewelry constructions using various fundamental techniques. It was attended by the Filipino Community organizations Balikatan sa Kaunlaran and United Migrants Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Association HK.
The workshop and exhibit were part of the Consulate’s programs and advocacies, in cooperation with Pintura Circle – a group of Hong Kong-based Filipino artists – in its continued efforts to provide alternative avenues of development for Filipinos in Hong Kong not only for artistic expression, but also to unlock artistic potentials and broaden their knowledge and skills.
The project, overseen by the Consulate’s Cultural Section, was held under the auspices of Post’s Gender and Development (GAD) Program, to implement the Magna Carta for Women, especially in difficult circumstances and to provide women Filipino community members, with capacity building initiatives to hone their artistic skills while employed in Hong Kong.
