The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, led by Consul General Antonio A. Morales, surveyed the latest green economy trends at the four-day Eco Expo Asia, Hong Kong’s biggest environmental protection-themed exhibition, held on 25 October 2018 at the AsiaWorld Expo on Lantau Island.
During the exhibition’s opening ceremony, Hong Kong Secretary for Environment Wong Kam-sing highlighted Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor’s policy priorities in the coming year on environmental protection, which includes waste reduction, especially the use of plastic ware, and developing renewable energy facilities for a low carbon future.
The Hong Kong Government has allocated some HK$300 to 400 million to implement initiatives for a green future through improved construction materials and techniques, more efficient and clean transportation and energy technologies, and disaster mitigation and adaptation measures.
Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Executive Director Margaret Fong emphasized that raising environmental awareness is a key mission, and that green living must be promoted.
The event, which ran until 28 October 2018, was attended by members of the consular corps, Hong Kong government officials and representatives from the private sector.
On its 13th year, Eco Expo Asia is Hong Kong’s leading trade fair for the environment protection industry, and featured 340 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions, including Austria, India, Singapore, Switzerland and Thailand.
After the opening ceremony, Consul General Morales, Consul Roderico C. Atienza and the Consulate’s Political and Economic Section visited the expo, including an exhibit of a prototype electric bus from Ecological Green Transportation, a Hong Kong-based eco-company.
