Consul General Antonio A. Morales paid tribute to Filipino household service workers (HSWs) in Hong Kong for helping serve as the country’s ambassadors in an interview on 25 October 2018 with a leading Chinese-language daily print and online newspaper.
“When I meet diplomats, government officials and other contacts, they have nothing but praise for our Filipino workers in Hong Kong, and they thank them for their contribution to the Hong Kong society and economy”, Consul General Morales told Hong Kong Economic Journal’s (HKEJ) Senior Reporter, Ms. Maren Tam, in the interview at the official residence.
Aside from the Filipino community in Hong Kong, which currently numbers around 228,000, the interview also focused on Consul General Morales’ life and career as a diplomat, his priorities as the head of post of one of the biggest Philippine missions in the world, as well as on Philippine arts, culture, heritage and current issues.
“My biggest enjoyment and fulfillment is being able to help our fellow Filipinos, to defend them when they are not treated fairly, and to make a difference in their lives”, said Consul General Morales when asked on why he chose to be a diplomat.
HKEJ is a Chinese-language daily newspaper based in Hong Kong. Its online version, EJ Insight, features English-language articles. HKEJ regularly publishes interviews with Hong Kong-based consuls general.
