The Philippines, represented by both the government and the private sector, participated in the 8th edition of the Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC) organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on 20-21 November 2018.
The Philippine Consulate General’s Political and Economic Section, as well as F2 Logistics, a Philippine logistics company providing full-service end-to-end supply chain business solutions, attended the event, together with representatives from the Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines.
F2 Logistics, whose services span from air and sea freight, warehousing and distribution, trucking, to cold chain and customs brokerage, promoted its services for the third year running. President and CEO Efren E. Uy stressed that the company’ participation in ALMC has boosted their business and global network.
During the opening ceremony, HKTDC Executive Director Margaret Fong stressed the importance of strengthening connectivity in the region during this time of global uncertainty, and of establishing free trade agreements, most notably the impending operationalization of the ASEAN-Hong Kong Free Trade and Investment Agreements in January 2019.
In her welcoming remarks, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said: “Connections are critical and Hong Kong is truly blessed to have a ‘one country, two systems’ arrangement which paved deeper connections to mainland China and continues to build ties with the rest of the world”.
CE Lam also emphasized the strengthening relations between ASEAN and Hong Kon
g, especially following the signing of the FTA.
In his keynote address, ASEAN Secretary-General H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi shared ASEAN’s experience on enhancing regional connectivity, with the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC) 2025 as the framework document, to address infrastructure and security issues in the region.
This year’s ALMC, focusing on Asian Connectivity, New Retail Revolution and Logistics Technology, gathered around 2,000 stakeholders from more than 30 countries and regions. ALMC is a biggest of its kind in Asia and was a flagship event of the Hong Kong Maritime Week (18-24 November 2018).
The Conference was supported by the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council and Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board, and featured an exhibition zone, and business matching sessions.
