The Philippine Consulate General, working with delegations from the Philippines, joined concurrent expos on innovation & technology, franchising and intellectual property rights (IPR) organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on 5-7 December 2018.

Consul General Antonio A. Morales, accompanied by Deputy Consul General Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan and Vice Consul Fatima G. Quintin, attended the opening of the SmartBiz Expo and the inaugural Asian E-tailing Summit on 5 December. The Asian E-tailing Summit focused on the trends and best practices on online marketing.

The Philippine Consulate General also operated a country booth at the SmartBiz Expo’s Pathfinder Village Hall, fielding inquiries and distributing investment kits, in line with its mission of promoting the Philippine businesses in Hong Kong and the rest of the world.

This year’s SmartBiz Expo, which featured more than 500 exhibitors from 18 cities and countries, aimed to enhance SMEs' competitiveness and encourage them to explore technology and innovations.

Held back-to-back with the SmartBiz Expo was the Hong Kong International Franchising Show, which gathered more than 70 exhibitors promoting local and foreign franchise opportunities, as well as consulting and support services.

The Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) promoted franchising opportunities for leading brands such as Jollibee, Max’s Restaurant, Potato Corner, Bench, Figaro Coffee Company and Bibingkinitan. PFA was represented at the Expo by Senior Project Manager Jake Santos, while Max’s Restaurant was represented by its International Operations Director Katrina A. Basilio.

On 6-7 December 2018, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) sent a 20-member delegation to the Business of Intellectual Property (BIP) Asia Forum 2018, where IP professionals and business leaders from all over the world discussed the latest industry developments, and to explore business collaboration opportunities.

IPOPHL also ran its own booth at BIP Asia Forum 2018’s exhibition hall where they responded to questions on Philippine intellectual property rules and regulations.
