The Philippines had an opportunity to present its unique craftmanship at Hong Kong’s two jewelry exhibitions organized back-to-back by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) from 26 February to 4 March 2019.
The Philippine Consulate General, represented by Deputy Consul General Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan, joined the Opening Ceremony of the 6th Hong Kong Diamond, Gem and Pearl at the AsiaWorld Expo, as one of the VIP guests. The show, the first half of a consolidated event considered by the industry as the world’s biggest, ran from 26 February to 2 March.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Hong Kong Legislative Council President Andrew Leung with HKTDC Executive Director Margaret Fong.
The second show, targeting retail consumers, was the 36th Hong Kong International Jewelry Show 2019, which ran from 28 February to 4 March 2019 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre). The twin expos featured 4,600 international exhibitors and jewelers from 48 countries and regions, making it the world's biggest jewelry fair.
At the 36th HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) brought exhibitors from the Meycauayan Jewelry Industry Association, Inc. which featured exquisitely crafted jewelry with filigree and Filipino-inspired designs.
Jewelmer Joaillerie, the Philippines’ leading producer of golden South Sea pearls, is also one of the Philippine exhibitors. The jewelry company has been participating at the show for more than 20 years.
DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez visited the Philippine exhibitors at the jewelry show and met with HKTDC Executive Director Margaret Fong at the sidelines of the event.
During the meeting, both officials discussed initiatives to enhance Philippines-Hong Kong trade relations, especially in design, creative arts, professional services, and supporting businesses, particularly, SMEs, in going global.
