In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong hosted a free art workshop session for Filipino women household service workers titled “Cartoon Drawing and Basic Animation Workshop” conducted by award-winning Filipino artist and animator, Norlie Meimban, at the Consulate Gallery.
The twenty (20) participants were introduced to the basic concepts and principles of cartoon drawing and animation (i.e., sequential movements and walk-cycles, etc.).
The workshop is part of the Consulate’s programs and advocacies, in cooperation with Pintura Circle – a group of Hong Kong-based Filipino artists, in its continued efforts to provide alternative avenues of development for our Kababayans in Hong Kong not only for artistic expression, but also to unlock their potentials and broaden their knowledge and skills.
The project, overseen by the Consulate’s Cultural Section, was held under the auspices of Post’s Gender and Development (GAD) Program, to implement the Department’s GAD mandate, particularly Section 30 of Magna Carta of Women: Women in Especially Difficult Circumstances and Section 31: Services and Interventions; and to provide women Filipino Community members, who are predominantly household service workers (OFWs), with capacity building initiatives especially on honing their artistic skills while employed in Hong Kong.
