Almost 50 OFWs attended a seminar to raise awareness on employment rights on 02 June 2019 at the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong. The event was conducted in cooperation with a non-profit organization, HELP for Domestic Workers.
Ms. Betty Wagner, Case Manager of HELP, discussed the basic rights and entitlements of Migrant Domestic Workers in Hong Kong. She conveyed that HELP’s mission is to empower foreign domestic workers through advice and assistance, education and advocacy and help them gain access to justice and receive fair and equal treatment before the law in the Territory. She added that they also provide free advice and assistance on employment, immigration and human rights issues to domestic workers.
A Q&A session led by Ms. Wagner together with three (3) other HELP volunteers, followed the lecture where attendees actively participated in asking questions and sharing their work experiences.
The next workshop for OFWs on employment rights is set tentatively during the second half of 2019.
