HONG KONG 07 January 2020 — The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong held  a poem-reading of Dr. Jose Rizal’s “Mi Ultimo Adios” in  commemoration of the 123rd anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal, preceded by a wreath-laying ceremony and a flag ceremony on 29 December 2019, at the Consulate’s Sentro Rizal.

The Consulate’s officials and staff along with some members of the Filipino community in Hong Kong participated in the ceremony.

Deputy Consul General Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan, in her brief remarks, emphasized Dr. Jose Rizal’s patriotism and exceptional contributions to the society through the latter’s advocacy for peaceful reform and freedom, and notable literary works.

She further stressed that the “Rizal Day” celebration must be “a reminder as to why we are a strong nation today and why we should be proud of who we are.”

A simple salo-salo of traditional Filipino delicacies concluded the event.

The Consulate observes Rizal Day annually to honor the heroism of Dr. Jose Rizal and pay tribute to his life and works. END
