The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong commemorates the 123rd Anniversary of Philippines Independence and Kapangyawan Friendship Festival through a virtual celebration on Saturday, 12 June 2021 at 8:30 AM through the Consulate’s official Facebook page.

The celebration was divided into two parts: the formal ceremony which includes the Independence day messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Vice President Leni Robredo, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr., Secretary of Trade and Industry, read by Vice Consul (Commercial) Atty. Roberto B. Mabalot, Jr., Secretary of Labor and Employment Silvestre Bello III, and Secretary of Social Welfare and Development Rolando Joselito D. Bautista, CEO Pag-Ibig Fund Acmad Rizaldy  P. Moti, and SSS President and CEO Aurora C. Ignacio.

The second part is the Kapangyawan Friendship Festival. The festival is a celebration of friendship between the Philippines and Hong Kong. This is a cultural program featuring Philippine festivals, street dancing, and traditional dances performed by various Filipino Community organizations. The Consulate collaborated with Global Alliance (GA), Philippine Alliance (PA) and Federation of Luzon Active Group (FLAG), three of the biggest and highly regarded Filipino organizations in Hong Kong, to come up with an excellent performance.

CG Tejada, in his remarks described the Filipino Community as people who have the capacity to recover quickly from the difficulties. These Filipinos can achieve a victory over the difficult challenges caused by the pandemic through pagkakaisa, bayanihan, and pagkalinga sa kapwa.

He is also reminded that the pandemic is not yet over and we should take care of ourselves. He encouraged fellow Filipinos to continue to support the fight against COVID-19 by following all the health protocols set out by the Government of Hong Kong. END
